I keep a file next to my desk called “Artists I Like”.  This is a repository of cards and brochures of artists I find in my travels that appeal to me, or could be a resource for clients and future projects.  This folder contains information on various types of art–paintings, sculpture, pottery, and all sorts of beautiful objects d’art that speak to me.  I usually find my contacts in a gallery or art festival.  And often, I meet the artists, which makes the find even more special.  I have been feeding this folder for a while and it has become quite fat!  I like to sift through it, from time to time, for the pure pleasure of looking at beautiful things.  It inspires me.

And isn’t that what art should do?  Pablo Picasso said, “The purpose of art is washing the dust of daily life off our souls.”  I believe that.  Art lifts and inspires us.  It provokes reflection and conversation.  It adds beauty to our lives and makes the ordinary special.

This month’s SCL newsletter is dedicated to art and how a simple painting or sculpture can enhance your home decor and your life.  We will talk about the basics, like the different types of art, how to find the perfect piece, framing your masterpiece and displaying it.  We will also share a few of our favorite industry artwork vendors with you, as well as some favorite local artists.

So read on, and I encourage you to start your own folder.  But beware…it becomes an obsession fast!

Warm regards,

Kim
