I am lucky enough to live next door to two of the nicest little boys. They are articulate and smart kids and we often chat in the little piece of yard that runs between our houses. Several weeks ago, the boys and I were commiserating (while practicing proper social distancing, of course!) about the quarantine and how it had affected us. It was good to share and hear their thoughts on these unprecedented times. Truly, for an 11-year-old boy, there is very little good to say about this situation. It is a lonely, scary and boring time.
In an effort to make them feel better, I shared my belief in silver linings. I have always had faith that when something bad happens, there is often good to be found. You just have to look for it. Maybe it simply helps me feel better about a bad situation, but it seems to work.
As we talked about this, I realized that during this challenging time of COVID-19, we do not have to look far to find the silver linings.
This SCLgram is dedicated to the positive side effects of a very difficult situation. We will focus on having time to tackle your “to do” lists and how you can achieve the DIY version of the famous SCL “Blitz”. We also share some tips with you about working from home and how to present your new office in the best possible light.
But mostly, we proudly share with you the incredible efforts the design industry has initiated to help those in need during this crisis. Many of our manufacturers were using their resources and facilities to produce face masks for health care workers and hand sanitizer for the general public. Several furniture companies had modified their factories in order to product folding field hospital beds instead of sofas. And many were also helping manufacture critical medical equipment. It is truly inspiring, and I am grateful to be a part of this generous community.
So please read on and, for a short while, enjoy the silver linings.
Warm regards,
Kim
